Certainly, the Marangu Route is a popular path for ascending Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, it is recognized for its gradual ascent and well-defined trails.
Day by Day
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
- Start the hike at the Marangu Gate (1,860 meters) and traverse through the dense rainforest.
- Reach the Mandara Hut (2,700 meters) for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
- Continue the trek through the moorland with stunning views of the mountain’s vegetation.
- Arrive at the Horombo Hut (3,720 meters) for a restful night.
Day 3: Horombo Hut – Acclimatization day
- Spend the day at Horombo Hut to acclimatize to the altitude.
- Consider short hikes in the area for better adaptation.
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
- Trek through the alpine desert, experiencing a significant change in the landscape.
- Arrive at the Kibo Hut (4,703 meters) and prepare for the final push to the summit.
Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
- Commence the summit attempt during the early hours of the morning.
- Reach the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), and then descend to the Horombo Hut for the night.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
- Descend through the lush rainforest back to the Marangu Gate.
- Conclude the journey with a celebration and certificate ceremony.
